our approach
Our Commitment to Sustainability & Ethical Craftsmanship. At Baby Blue Jewellery, we are committed to creating timeless, high-quality pieces that celebrate the beauty of nature while upholding responsible and sustainable practices. Our approach is rooted in craftsmanship, ethical sourcing, and environmental consciousness, ensuring that every piece we make is as kind to the planet as it is beautiful to wear.
Craftsmanship & Materials. Each piece of jewellery is thoughtfully designed and handcrafted, embracing the organic shapes and textures of baroque pearls, shells and gemstones. We prioritise quality over quantity, creating designs that stand the test of time and encourage mindful consumption. Our aesthetic is one of understated luxury, inspired by the ocean’s natural elegance.
Ethical Sourcing. We are dedicated to responsible sourcing practices and work only with suppliers who share our commitment to ethical and sustainable standards. Our baroque pearls are selected with care, supporting sustainable partnerships that prioritize ecological balance and fair labor practices. The shells we use are gathered with respect, ensuring that local beach ecosystems remain undisturbed and preserved for future generations.
A Timeless Approach to Jewellery We believe that jewellery should be a personal expression, designed to be cherished for years to come. Our collections emphasise simplicity and intention, allowing you to wear each piece effortlessly while carrying a story of nature’s beauty with you.
Packaging & Shipping Our packaging is designed with sustainability in mind, using recyclable and compostable materials whenever possible. We are actively working toward reducing plastic waste and optimising our shipping processes to limit environmental impact.
Freshwater Pearl Sustainability Our pearls are sourced from Zhuji, Zhejiang, a region known for its high-quality freshwater pearls. We ensure that our suppliers follow environmentally responsible farming methods, including:
Water Quality Management: Maintaining clean, pollutant-free water to support healthy shellfish growth.
Ecological Balance: Regulating breeding density to prevent overfarming and environmental degradation.
Disease Prevention & Control: Utilizing eco-friendly methods to prevent disease and minimize chemical use.
Resource Recycling: Repurposing shell by-products to reduce waste and promote sustainability.
Community Engagement: Supporting local communities through fair employment opportunities and economic development.
Looking Ahead. Sustainability is a journey, and we are dedicated to evolving our practices in alignment with ethical and environmental standards. Our future goals include:
Increasing transparency across our supply chain.
Strengthening our partnerships with sustainable and ethical suppliers.
Continuing to explore eco-conscious materials and packaging solutions.
Expanding our efforts in environmental and social responsibility initiatives.
At Baby Blue Jewellery, we promise to remain accountable, transparent, and dedicated to our mission of crafting beautiful, responsible jewellery. Thank you for supporting our journey towards a more sustainable future.
About us
With a deep connection to the ocean, Rachel’s designs reflect the down-to-earth lifestyle she grew up with. She has a natural ability to translate the sea’s ever-changing beauty into jewellery—pieces that feel effortless yet deeply personal. This sensibility is at the heart of Baby Blue Jewellery.
"I grew up in the Byron Bay hinterland and went to Teven-Tintenbar, a tiny school with just 100 kids. Every weekend, I’d go to the beach with my surf-obsessed family. That connection to the ocean is something I carry into everything I create."
“I started creating jewellery at a young age. Having spent time as a child growing up on a secluded property, and summers on the remote island of Vava’u, I learnt to fill my time and soul with creativity and let my imagination run wild. I have always had a deep fascination and connection to the magical, the mysterious, the vast oceans, nature and all things aesthetic with a story to tell. This passion and experience has carried forth and is evident in my collections to this day. Being self-taught, my designs are instinctive and innovative. I choose to take my time, producing refined collections that evolve organically with attention to detail and sustainability, timeless and not confined to seasonal trends.”
Rachel is currently studying silversmithing with Kylie Gartside in Lismore.
