care guide

Our jewellery is made to be lived in and worn every day. To prolong the life of your jewellery we suggest the following:

Avoid Mermaiding in Your Baby Blue

The wire used is made from stainless steel, known for its strength and durability. However, it's crucial to be cautious around water, especially saltwater, as stainless steel can rust over time when exposed to such environments. Refrain from wearing it while swimming in saltwater or submerging it in any type of water.

Au Naturel

Avoid contact with cosmetics, perfumes or chemicals and never use metal polish or cleaners. Clean using a soft cloth.

Remove Before Activity

Kindly remove your jewellery before activities like sleeping, exercising, or engaging in physical tasks to prevent accidental damage.

Be Mindful Around Children

Please exercise caution when wearing jewellery around children, as their playful nature may involve tugging or pulling.

Always protect your jewellery from knocks, scratches, chemicals and extreme temperatures to minimise damage or wear. We recommend removing your jewellery when sleeping*, when you shower or bathe and particularly when on the beach, in the sea and in chlorinated water. Avoid spraying perfume or applying creams where they might come into direct contact with your jewellery. Jewellery is not indestructible and if twisted or bent, joins can snap.

*Sleeping in necklaces can cause tangles that put stress on joins and can cause damage and breakage. Stones set in silver should be worn carefully, as when worn silver will wear away and stones can become loose and dislodge. If you are buying rings for daily wear and do not intend to remove them, we suggest you purchase gold instead. We also strongly recommend you have your stone set gold rings checked by a jeweller every few years to ensure that the stones are safe, as although gold is a strong metal, all metals can wear over time.

Storage: To protect your jewellery, pieces should be individually placed in pouches or within a soft lined box to stop them being scratched or tangled. Ideally, store your jewellery in a dark, cool and dry place and try to keep pieces separate, so that they don't rub together or tangle up.

Gold plated and Gold Filled

Gold-filled Jewellery lasts longer than its counterparts, gold plated jewelry included.

When you purchase a gold-filled piece of jewelry, you are buying a substantial layer of gold that has been pressure bonded to a sterling silver or other metal bases. Due to the amount of gold used, these pieces maintain their value and are tarnish resistant.

Unlike gold plating, gold filled is far more resistant to tarnishing. It is a reliable material for use in jewellery as it is made up of two or three layers of solid gold, with minimum 5% in composition to the core metal.

With care your gold-filled jewelry can last anywhere between 10 to 30 years.

Does Gold Filled Copper Tarnish?

Gold filled copper consists of copper as the base metal, layered with gold fill. It behaves like the standard gold filled material. It may or may not tarnish. It all comes down to how you use it. Gold filled copper is tarnish resistant under usual conditions. To make it last longer, avoid direct contact with your everyday products such as sunscreens, hairspray or perfumes. Apply perfume and hairsprays before you put your gold filled copper jewelry on. Keep it clean and moisture free and it will last well up to 15 years.

925 Sterling silver and silver plated

Silver jewellery will naturally tarnish over time. Using a jewellery polishing cloth (available from most jewellers) is an effective way to keep jewellery looking shiny and lustrous. Never use metal polish or cleaners. Ideally, store silver pieces in an airtight bag to help reduce tarnishing. Do not use tissue paper or paper towels to clean metal as they can cause scratching. Do not use polishing creams or polishing cloths on plated jewellery, as it can remove the plating. All jewellery is vulnerable to the hard knocks of the physical universe. Rings scratch, bracelets dent, and links rub against each other and wear out.It is important to take care to extend the life of your sterling silver and silver plated jewellery.

Gemstones, shells and Pearls

Look after gemstones, shells and pearls as these are delicate and may chip. Since many gemstones are quite delicate, hot water, harsh chemicals and cleaners should be avoided at all times. We advise cleaning your precious stones with a clean, soft, damp cloth after wearing. Stones such as pearls should be cleaned using an untreated, dry, soft cloth only. Avoid exposing your pearl jewellery to extreme heat or cold as this may cause the stone to contract or expand and can loosen the setting. Do not use tissue paper or paper towels to clean gemstones as they can cause scratching.
